Last week, it was announced that Impact Wrestling will leave Pop TV for an outdoors channel named Pursuit. This marks the fourth time that the group formerly known as TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling has changed networks. Their national television trajectory began with Fox Sports Net (2004-2005), and their was their long stint with Spike (now The Paramount Network) from 2005-2014. 2015 marked their time with Destination America, which was also when Ring of Honor (ROH) Wrestling was on the channel as well (but not for long). January 2016 was when they arrived on Pop (the former TV Guide Channel), and it was reported that the network treated them unfairly. This whole situation is extremely unsettling for everyone.
Pursuit is a channel that is owned by Impact Wrestling’s current backing company Anthem Sports & Entertainment. The channel is not available everywhere, and it was also reported that the move isn’t permanent. While Impact has had a banner 2018, the announcement move to a network that is only available as part of High Definition (HD) cable packages before Impact’s upcoming Homecoming pay-per-view, is the Christmas present NO ONE WANTS! This continues to make Impact look like the group that just can’t win no matter what. As a fan of Impact, I am extremely disappointed by this.
Something like this is what World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) loves to see. What do I mean by that? The competition falling hard and not getting up. Since 2002, Impact had endured a lot to become one of many alternatives to WWE (whose ratings have continued to sink). It was wrestling fans like me and countless others who have kept Impact alive, and we want it to stay and find a network that will hold on to them. As far as I’m concerned: WGN America, CBS Sports Network, Paramount (hey it could happen), because those places would love to have them.
Impact Wrestling will begin on The Pursuit Channel on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10PM ET/9PM CT/8PM MT/7PM PT.
